Fairmont’s fun line up of classes are taught with a creative, hands-on approach and individualized instruction on subjects that pique students curiosity and interests. Course Description: Writers and non-writers unite! Have you ever thought about a cool story and couldn't figure out how to put it together on paper? Have you ever experienced something and couldn't quite describe it well? Students will engage in a 2-week process to conceptualize, plan, draft, publish, and illustrate completed works of literary art! We will be diving into different stories, learning about the writing styles of different authors, and scavenging the treasure troves of word choice to expand our schema of words. Critical thinking, problem solving, perspective shifts, and research skills are just a few of the concepts that we will be learning more about and intertwining throughout these two weeks!

We make Chess fun at camp by using story based, exciting lessons, our giant chess set, and interactive games all aimed at teaching life skills though chess! Kids will play outside games with the giant chess set, get a simul with a chess master, and an exciting tournament at the end with trophies and prizes and so much more! Chess Camp is designed to fit the needs of all skill levels and bring the royal game to life. Continuing and new students are welcome. Every chess student will receive an Academic Chess workbook according to their own skill level.Chess increases IQ and teaches children to think deeply, gain confidence, solve problems, develop patience, compete well, visualize results and strategize and plan. Kids will have a blast while learning life skills through chess!

The sky’s the limit when campers are challenged to use their own ideas and skills to build a skyscraper taller than their heads! Making it move is the name of the game at this exciting camp! Students will love to see their creations in motion using LEGO® wireless remote controls. Each day, campers will use fascinating and challenging LEGO® components to create dynamic vehicles, inventions, machines and more. As they enjoy the fun of building, campers will understand the basic working principles of many ingenious devices that are part of our everyday lives. Campers will also learn how to magnify, diminish and redirect force to move objects at different speeds and in different directions. This camp is loads of fun and learning for budding builders. Swimmers will focus on learning four swim strokes as well as practicing water safety in small groups designed to help all children become more confident in the water. Coach Lemke has been teaching Fairmont students for the past 10 years and is a Certified Instructor and Lifeguard with the American Red Cross. Space is limited! SKATE KIDS Skateboarding Camp is a structured 3 hour camp that teaches hands on skateboarding. In our 4 day program. Students will learn at his or her own pace. Run by world renowned skateboarding professional Kurtis Colamonico and staff. Students will leave with new self- confidence and the skills Colamonico has learned to master in his two decades of experience, competition and performance. Students will learn the safety requirements of skateboarding, build fine motor skills, gain control of balance on a skateboard, improve arm and leg coordination, and reflexes while making friends in the comfort of Fairmont Private School. Loner boards, helmets, and sets of elbow and knee pads are available to the first 15 people registered. Any registrations after will need to bring personal skateboard, helmet, knee and elbow pads. This camp is designed for all skill levels. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced kids.

Students will learn handbuilding techniques for creating a variety of projects in clay. They will make a ceramic clay tile, bowl, windchime and fairy house the first week of class. The second week, students will glaze their fired pieces and create a pendant, beads and magnet using polymer and air dry clays. Students will come home with a variety of ceramic pieces, both decorative and utilitarian, to enjoy!

Learn to sew with Fashion Camp. We’ll teach you about the sewing machine - how to thread, load a bobbin, and to perform basic stitching techniques. Students will layout and cut their patterns, pin and iron, then sew through the garment themselves. Everyone will go home with a completed backpack.
